Collegium (Latin), n: A group united by common purpose.
Education should not end when schooling does.
Yet for working adults, the avenues for pursuing ongoing learning are surprisingly narrow. Formal education is often expensive or difficult to re-enter, while many alternatives reduce learning to the acquisition of credentials or the passive consumption of fragmented information.
The Collegium begins from a different understanding of education. Study worthy of a free citizen should lead to personal, intellectual, and vocational enrichment. It should cultivate practical judgment, engage perennial ideas, and test understanding through questioning, discussion, and application.
The Collegium exists to make that kind of education available again: Serious learning, undertaken in good company and rooted in local communities, where students and instructors can meet regularly, think together, and form relationships that outlive the class itself.

The Collegium begins locally. Our flagship courses bring students and instructors together regularly in hospitable places — bookstores, pubs, classrooms, and other settings where sustained study can become part of the common life of a city.
Livestream courses extend the same emphasis on active participation beyond the confines of geography, while the Library preserves lectures, courses, and conversations of enduring value for study at any time.
